Large Coyote Sighting Plano

According to some Plano home owners, a large coyote has been spotted in the area. More and more wildlife is coming out of the wilderness and into city areas in search of food and water, particularly after this summer which has seen one of the worst droughts on record.

Recently, a couple were driving down Legacy Drive and saw a large coyote cross into the parking lot of Legacy Church near Coit Road. As they watched for a bit, the coyote was clearly searching the shrubs for rabbits or something to eat. Plano home owners are being warned not to approach wild animals, as many are becoming more and more brazen and don’t appear to be frightened by humans. It’s not uncommon for wild animals to revisit common areas where they have been successful hunting in the past.

Other home owners talk about coyotes in their yards nightly, some coming within just a few feet of the front door as early as 10:00 p.m. Other wildlife includes red foxes and bobcats.

Dallas Animal Control is reminding Plano residents to use good judgement should they see a coyote or other wild animal on their property. Don’t try to approach them or corral them, and certainly, do not get in the habit of feeding them. If you do, you will have a nightly visitor that will soon bring his family and friends along too. Protect your pets by keeping them indoors at night, and keep your yards well-lit. Additionally, ensure your children are aware of the situation and also know how to handle themselves.
